The House adopted House Resolution 4613 today sponsored by Representative Sharon Tomiko Santos recognizing the 2015 Day of Remembrance to remember the exclusion and internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Rep. Santos and Rep. Melanie Stambaugh gave remarks on the House floor acknowledging and reflecting on the significance of more than 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry, including 12,000 Japanese American residents of Washington State, who were unjustly incarcerated due to Executive Order 9066 of 1942.

Members of the Japanese American community including those representing the Nisei Veterans Committee, the Japanese American Citizens League, the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington State, and the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience joined the Legislature in recognizing the 2015 Day of Remembrance.
