On Saturday, April 13th, 300 community members attended CAPAA‘s Sapphire Celebration, observing 45 years of service to Asian and Pacific Islander communities statewide. Honored at the event for their distinguished careers in serving the API communities were Diane Narasaki with CAPAA‘s Lifetime Achievement Award, and Reynaldo Pascua with CAPAA‘s Vanguard Award, both of whom were named Commissioners Emeriti.
CAPAA looks forward to continuing its work in advocacy and service on priority issues, such as the 2020 Census Full Count efforts, improving community-police relationships, promoting equitable access to health care, human services, and education, addressing mental illness, and advocating for civil rights. CAPAA is open to active collaborations with community members and organizations and invites them to connect with staff and Commissioners. Our past successes include health care access for community members of the Compact of Free Association (COFA) Nations, better practices of disaggregated data in the K-12 education system, and supporting community members’ access to their State elected officials.
