CAPAA welcomes new Project Coordinator

The Commission would like to introduce Sam Le, the new Project Coordinator for CAPAA. Le recently graduated from the University of Washington and has been an active member in the greater Seattle Area through various activities, such as UW’s student government and the Asian Counseling and Referral Service’s Walk for Rice.

Le is excited to serve the Asian and Pacific Islander community throughout the state in his new capacity by elevating their stories and narratives through conventional and creative approaches.

The Commission would like to acknowledge Brianne Ramos, our former Project Coordinator, for her dedication to improving the lives of Asian and Pacific Islander communities across the state. During her more than two years of service, Brianne was instrumental in advocating for data disaggregation on the Healthy Youth Survey and OSPI Race and Ethnicity Student Data Task Force; supporting efforts to improve health equity for Pacific Islanders; and promoting linguistically and culturally appropriate strategies to close opportunity gaps and address health disparities. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors

Get to know the Every Student Succeeds Act

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2017, replaces the previous version of the law, No Child Left Behind. Here in Washington State, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is now requesting feedback from the public before submitting the 178 page plan to the U.S. Department of Education. OSPI will be receiving public comments from August 7th to September 5th.

To educate communities about ESSA, OSPI will be hosting webinars during the second half of August, starting on the 15th. For a complete schedule of the webinars, visit our website.
