We are pleased to announce that our Honoree to receive CAPAA’s Vanguard Award at our Sapphire Anniversary Celebration is former Commissioner Reynaldo Pascua. Reynaldo is the current President of the Filipino Community of Yakima Valley. He has been engaged with CAPAA it was first established in 1974 and has since remained a tireless champion for the broader Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders here in Washington State. As a proud Filipino American, Reynaldo led the great effort of bringing forth the true story of the first Washington Filipino settlers and he has committed his life to raising awareness of the issues impacting Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and immigrants through community organizing, agitation, and legislative advocacy. He is known to many as a historian, often telling the stories about the development of AAPI history and our contributions to the development of agriculture, economy and civil rights, as well as notable contributions in service to the United States Armed Forces. Today, many in the community regard him as “Uncle”, as he continues to raise awareness of the intricate, diverse beauty of AAPI cultures, and issues impacting our communities on a local, state, and national level.
