October is Filipino American History Month!
Governor Inslee has proclaimed October 2016 as Filipino American History Month in the state of Washington and encourages all people in our state to join in this special observance.
The Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs is excited to announce the selection of Reyleen Gogo as the 2017 Ruth Woo Fellow. The fellowship is a unique opportunity for currently enrolled students to learn about state government and to gain experience working in the Governor’s Office.
Public board meeting in Seattle on November 19
CAPAA will be holding a public board meeting on November 19, 2016, at the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington in Seattle.
Attendees will have an opportunity to hear about issues impacting Asian Pacific American communities. There will also be time for community members to provide public comment and voice their concerns to the Commission.
CAPAA will be convening a public board meeting on November 18, 2017. Presentations will be on emergency preparedness, youth marijuana prevention, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, and the Formerly Incarcerated Group Healing Together. Public comment from 11:55 AM to 12:10 PM.

Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Governor Inslee has declared May 2016 as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in Washington State. APA Heritage Month is a time to recognize and celebrate diverse Asian and Pacific Islander cultures. Public organizations are encouraged to designate time for activities commemorating the lives, history, achievements, and contributions of Asian Pacific Americans.

Commission to Meet on June 18 in Wapato
On Saturday, June 18, CAPAA will be convening a public board meeting at Filipino Hall in Wapato. You will have the opportunity to engage with Commissioners and hear about education policies and other issues impacting Asian Pacific American communities.
The public meeting will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but attendees may arrive or depart at any time. Members of the public will have an opportunity to participate in the Community Forum at 11:50 a.m.
