On May 15, the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA) brought youth, community leaders, elected officials and commissioners together at the Holiday Inn in Seatac for a celebration of history and to inspire a new generation.
September is the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s (OSPI) Attendance Awareness Month. As schools begin across the state, OSPI is raising awareness about the importance of regular school attendance.
The State of Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has released its latest set of data regarding the suspension and expulsion rates for various student groups. The data shows how many students are being suspended or expelled in each school district and classifies that data into race, sex, and program.
Individuals and families can purchase health plans under the Affordable Care Act beginning November 15, 2014 for coverage beginning January 1, 2015. The open enrollment period ends Feb. 15, 2015.

The Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA) will be convening on November 18, 2017 for a public board meeting at the Asia Pacific Cultural Center.
Presentations will be on emergency preparedness, youth marijuana prevention, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center (APCC), and the Formerly Incarcerated Group Healing Together (FIGHT). The Commission will also discuss its legislative agenda for 2018. Public comment will be from 11:55 AM to 12:10 PM.

CAPAA Public Board Meeting in Vancouver

CAPAA is hosting a public board meeting on Saturday, September 17 at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington.
This meeting will be a great opportunity to learn about efforts to ensure health equity for Pacific Islanders, hear updates about the Task Force on Deadly Force in Community Policing, and other issues impacting Asian Pacific American communities.
Community members may provide public comment to the Commission at 11:50 a.m.
October is Filipino American History Month!
Governor Inslee has proclaimed October 2016 as Filipino American History Month in the state of Washington and encourages all people in our state to join in this special observance.
The Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs is excited to announce the selection of Reyleen Gogo as the 2017 Ruth Woo Fellow. The fellowship is a unique opportunity for currently enrolled students to learn about state government and to gain experience working in the Governor’s Office.
