New Members Appointed to CAPAA
The Commission would like to thank Commissioners Didi Cabusao and Tashi Khamshitsang for their service and leadership in improving the lives of Asian Pacific Americans in Washington.

Governor Jay Inslee recently announced the reappointment of Ty Tufono and Lynette Finau and made the following appointments to the Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA):
Nam Nguyen is an Assistant Attorney General currently representing the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Prior to working at the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Nguyen worked in private practice in Bellevue, WA, and Houston, TX. He graduated from Boston University School of Law in 2010.

Governor Inslee has proclaimed July 2016 as Mental Health Awareness in Communities of Color Month.
The Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA) is encouraging efforts to promote mental health awareness in Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Mental health is essential to overall well-being, yet research shows that APIs are less likely to seek help for mental health issues due to social stigma, linguistic and cultural disconnects, and lack of access to health care.

Commission to Meet on June 18 in Wapato
On Saturday, June 18, CAPAA will be convening a public board meeting at Filipino Hall in Wapato. You will have the opportunity to engage with Commissioners and hear about education policies and other issues impacting Asian Pacific American communities.
The public meeting will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but attendees may arrive or depart at any time. Members of the public will have an opportunity to participate in the Community Forum at 11:50 a.m.
